Asymptotic Freedom: Nobel Prize in Physics 2004

The Nobel Prize in Physics for 2004 was awarded to Professor David J. Gross, Professor David H. Politzer and Professor Frank Wilczek, for their discovery of asymptotic freedom in the theory of strong interactions. The article describes this phenomenon, and the situation in the field prior and after the researchers’ pivotal contribution.

Prof. Micha Berkooz is professor in theoretical physics of high energy at the Department of Particle Physics at the Weizmann Institute of Science. Among his range of interest are: field theory, string theory, gravitation and black holes, the standard model of particles and its generalization, super-symmetry and cosmology.
